The project at HM Prison Barwon involves comprehensive additions, alterations, and refurbishments to improve its facilities and infrastructure.
Key upgrades include the construction of a new 10-bed detention unit, a substation upgrade with an uninterrupted power supply (UPS), and enhancements to medical and clinical services, kitchen facilities, and car park. A new gatehouse will be constructed, and the prisoner property store will undergo refurbishment. Additionally, a prisoner intelligence unit and a prisoner reception sallyport will be established, while existing spaces will be converted into six new telecourts. The project also includes a site-wide intercom system upgrade and the installation of secure compound fencing, all aimed at enhancing the prison’s security, functionality, and efficiency.
